Meditation Instruction
Meditation offers techniques that help us slow down and get to know ourselves so that we can become fully present to our situation and develop more appreciation for our world. Meditation is the heart of all programs offered at the Shambhala Center. The basic practice is sitting meditation where one works with posture and breath as central points of reference. This practice, called mindfulness/awareness meditation, cultivates mental clarity, calm, and stability. It cultivates a mind and body that are synchronized, relaxed and alert. Although you can read about meditation, the real transformative power comes through practice, the experiential dimension. It is also essentially an oral tradition, passed on from teacher to student. Therefore, the Shambhala Center offers meditation instruction and the opportunity to work regularly with a qualified meditation instructor. To learn more and try it for yourself, please come to Cafe Shambhala on Saturday mornings for free meditation instruction and community practice. We also offer an Open House on the first Wednesday evening of each month. In addition, Shambhala Training provides a comprehensive introduction to mindfulness/awareness meditation through a series of weekend workshops.
